40km jam packed with heritage and scenery. You will set out across the Gweebarra Bridge and along the cycle track with its many viewing points across the bay. Head up towards Narin and Portnoo. It’s only a km or so from the route to pop down to Narin Strand, a 2.5km long beach of beautiful golden sand, or to Portnoo and it’s sheltered harbour, both excellent for swimming. If the tide is out, you may be lucky enough to walk across to Inishkeel Island and the ruined monastery of St Chonaill. Back on the road and you will pass the Kilclooney Dolmen on your way to the heritage town of Ardara. There’s always plenty going on in Ardara and festivals throughout the summer months. On then to Glenties, setting to Brian Friel’s famous Ballybeg, and back along the cycle path, past “The Scenic Route” – do take a detour over the hills if your legs are up to it, and finally back past the Statue of Liberty to Lettermacaward. Take a couple of hours, take all day.
